Today I had my review for 2D subject in school, and I got a big, big relief. For the 3 components of the review, I got 2 As and 1 A+, something which I wasn't quite prepared to get. Now don't get me mistaken that I'm trying to boast, but I was just simply overjoyed. I think my course's pretty great, for I have improved quite a lot in terms of drawing and colour rendering. Remember I once said I couldn't paint to save myself? Thank goodness I've overcame that one big obstacle, although I'm still nowhere near good. What saved me though, was that I had done quite a bit of research and self trials on various techniques and principles in my journal; those were what pulled up my grades. However, my colour pencil rendering skill is still quite bad, and I'm lucky that colour pencil rendering is not part of 2D syllabus (or maybe not yet)! Then again, this is afterall just an indicative grade and not something final. I'll still have to keep up with my work and not slack, or else who knows I might just slide off the grading scale?
Remember my "Temle Scene in Thailand" artwork? My water colour rendering technique earlier this year was very patchy and uneven
This is one of my homework done a few weeks ago with acrylic; see the big difference in the evenness of the media?
Greetings from a zany Singapore guy! What you are going to see in my blog are my whinings, comments, complaints and thoughts, but no "Singlish" (Singapore’s brand of "localised English") and compulsory daily updates (that is, I will only update when I have got things to write about). So who should read my blog? Just anyone who wish to know me!

My First Acrylic Drawing
This week for 2D lesson, we were asked to use acrylic paint for our drawing. Well, although I've used acrylic paint before, I never really tried to do a real painting (the last time I've tried was re-coating of my string marionette's head). We were originally told to do 3 drawings, but I've only managed to finish one. My lecturer told me it looked not bad, but I was too slow. Well, I think it was already quite good for me because I could not control my brush strokes well. At the very least, I felt that the drawing still looked presentable, except for some random strokes which had gone beyond the area which I was supposed to paint.

First Lesson @ Lasalle
I had my first lesson at Lasalle finally yesterday morning (Friday). The only lesson for the day was 2D project, which involves 2D drawing and related assignments. What we were told to do today was to reinterprete our own photograph into an artwork of A5 size by using dots, ink strokes, straight lines or continuous lines etc. Below here are what I had drawn in class:
My self portrait and subject for my 2D project; a colleague of mine actually couldn't recognise this is me, and even thought this was taken in my teenage years!
Artwork done using different strengths of ink strokes; a lecturer from my faculty commented it looked nice, but I thought it looked too flat and uninteresting. Bleah!
Artwork done using cross-hatching patterns; this is something I'm more familiar as I'd drawn my "Mona Lisa Goes China" using such techniques
Artwork done with random dots; this is something relatively new but I got the hang of it pretty fast
They may not look that fantastic, but I think it still looked pretty decent, at least much better than when I paint! However, doing all these was not an easy task for me even though I had been drawing quite a fair bit since young, so much so that I got a bit dizzy after lesson ended. But it was still an interesting module for me.
